Importing Lab Analyses from Other Systems

Overview

Vinsight offers the ability to import CSV or Excel files with Lab Analysis data from other systems, based on your selected Analysis Set.

In this document:

  • Setting up an Analysis Set for an external CSV file
  • Importing your CSV file using the new Analysis Set

Setting up an Analysis Set for an external CSV file

When you import a CSV file of analyses, Vinsight will use a particular Analysis Set to determine the mapping of columns from the CSV file to Vinsight’s own Lab Analyis columns.
Firstly, Vinsight will look for the “Title” of the analysis as a column name, and if that is not found, will fall back to the “Property Name” instead.
These property look-ups are case-insensitive.
With this in mind, we can set up an Analysis Set that will allow us to import analyses from a given export file format.

In this example, we are starting with a CSV file from an external system, and they use different codes for their analysis columns:

We need to make an Analysis Set for this CSV file, where the “Title” of each column in the set matches to a title in the CSV file.
This includes all properties we want to import, including Date, Vessel, Batch and Comments.
Anything not defined in the Analysis Set will not be imported.

Head to Settings > Analyze > Analysis Sets > New to start a new Analysis Set.
Give the set a name that you will recognise (e.g. the name of the system you export this file from).
Enter in each row for the property you wish to import. Don’t forget Date, Vessel, Batch and maybe Comments as well.

Update the Title of each row to match the CSV header in your import source.

Importing your CSV file using the new Analysis Set

Now that you have an analysis set that defines the column mapping between the CSV and Vinsight, you can import your CSV file.

Head to Analyze > Lab Analyses > Import > CSV, and upload your CSV file.

On the import preview, you must select the Analysis Set corresponding to the file uploaded, then press Refresh:

If the mapping has been set up correctly, you should then see every column from your CSV file represented by the Vinsight equivalent column in the import preview.
Anything not showing in the import preview will not be imported.

If you are happy with the import preview, press “Import to Vinsight”.

Your analyses should now appear in your Vinsight account as if you entered them by hand.

When viewing your analyses, don’t forget to change the current Analysis Set to the one you set up, so you can see all the relevant columns and their values.
The titles shown on the main analysis list will match those you set up in your initial Analysis Set.
